Camai!

Waqaa! Winga atqa Narusvaugua. Uitalartua Igayarami. Caliunga School-ami kenirtarista, calivigmi-llu. Wiinga irniangka Cungicuq, Qamuralria-llu.

For those who do not understand what I just said I will translate: Hello or My name is Narusvak (big sea-gull), I live in Igiugig and I work at the school and office and my children are Cungicuq and Qamuralria. As one of the apprentices for the Yup’ik language program, I am proud to know that I can tell you that. As small as it is, I am learning my language and come a long way from just counting in Yup’ik and naming a few items. I can understand slightly of what is being spoken to me and that is a great achievement in itself. With that set aside, AlexAnna and Halay provided an update on our Language program and how we were able to honor our Elders for teaching us how to speak Yup’ik and reviving our language. Following her article you will find photos of how we incorporated the language in school using more Yup’ik than English in school.

Jeff has a wonderful update on his green house that includes, pigs, lodges and pulled pork! Yum! School is back into full swing and the kids have written some articles about going back to school and something about Mr. Gooden’s grumpy face. I’ll let you read into what that is all about. Hunters have been out and ventured out into the wilderness and were successful and I’ll let you observe them in the pictures before looking at your favorite people, announcements and enjoy the rest of what fall has to give because jack frost is on his way soon!
